LETTER CARRIER FOOD
DRIVE
Brookwood Letter Carriers Matilda Johnson and Margie Cooley roll out
food collected for the National Letter Association of Letter Carriers
Food Drive in May. Over 16,000 pounds of food were collected in West
Alabama communities for distribution by the West Alabama Food Bank.
BIKERS RIDE FOR KIDS

The Second Annual Bikers for Kids Motorcycle Rally was held in May and
raised over $1,700.00 for the West Alabama Food Bank. Jim Walter
Resources sponsored this event for the second year and made a donation
of $1,000.00 to the WAFB. Participants also brought food items that
children favor. The rally ended at Alabama Adventure Park in Bessemer
where the riders received free admission to the park and refreshments.

Volunteer
extraordinaire Charlie Burns and WAFB warehouse manager Charles Reedy,
Sr. ready boxes of Brown Bags for Charlie to deliver on his Saturday
route. Charlie is a past recipient of the WAFB’s Outstanding Service
Award.

It must be the weather! Nancy Rodger and Emily Baker lend support
packing bags on a screamin’ hot day.
NORTHRIDGE HIGH
SCHOOL DELIVERS FOOD

The Northridge High School Student Government Association sponsored a
food drive in competition with Paul Bryant H.S. Northridge High students
collected 1,261 pounds of urgently needed food for the WAFB to
distribute.

WAL-MART COMMUNITY DONATIONS

The Hamilton, AL WAL-MART awarded two $2,500.00 grants to WAFB agencies
in Hamilton. Presenting the check to the Christian Center of Concern is
Matt Moore. Also receiving a grant was the Marion-Winston Community
Action Committee. WAL-MART Hamilton won a state-wide competition
collecting funds for food banks and received the $5000.00 grant from the
WAL-MART Foundation.

Carroll’s Creek Baptist Vacation Bible School sort donated food items
from the Food Bank of North Alabama for the WAFB on a very hot June
morning.

SENDS VOLUNTEERS

WAFB board member Berry Roberson joins Alabama Credit Union volunteers
during a recent Saturday. We thank Alabama Credit Union for recruiting
volunteers throughout the year.
AGENCY SPOTLIGHT

Brent Baptist Church’s Kris Connell makes a stop at the WAFB to pick up
food for the Brent Baptist Caring Center. Kris makes the trip from Brent
twice a month to restock the food pantry. Brent Baptist has been an
affiliate of the WAFB since 1996 and is an important community partner
in their outreach to the needy in Bibb County.
BEAT AUBURN – BEAT
HUNGER FOOD FIGHT STARTS OCT. 16
The 13th Annual Beat Auburn-Beat Hunger food drive will begin
on Monday October 16th with a kick-off at the Ferguson Center
plaza on the University of Alabama campus.
Participating student
organizations can drop their canned goods off at the food bank until
November 16th (see the directions tab on the main menu for
driving directions). Auburn’s goal for this year is 120,000 pounds so we
need everyone’s support! |
